Meet Our People - Robbie Grip

Meet Robbie Grip, a dynamic Sales Operations Assistant at Mercury, who excels in supporting the sales team and ensuring seamless client experiences. With a passion for relentless improvement, Robbie thrives on the variety of daily tasks, from updating internal systems to assisting clients with their needs. His dedication to going above and beyond is evident in his meticulous approach to onboarding new clients and his commitment to lifesaving shipments.

Can you share your role at Mercury and how you joined the company initially?

My responsibilities here at Mercury include following up with clients and supporting the sales team by updating our pipeline, putting together rate sheets, and making sure our internal systems are up to date.

What does a typical day in your role look like?

I love my role because there is always something different to take on each day. Whether that be communicating with clients to understand their pain points, assisting clients on how to use our portal, or helping onboard clients. There is always something new to learn. Relentless improvement is the goal in everything we do.

What are you most passionate about your role?

I am most passionate about knowing I went above and beyond to help a client. We understand the critical importance of each shipment, recognizing that there is often a life depending on it. We take a lot of pride in assisting with these shipments.

Can you describe a time when you had to adapt to a challenging situation? How did your approach lead to a positive outcome?

Working at Mercury, you tend to wear a lot of hats. You always have to be ready to take on new things. One responsibility that I was tasked with was onboarding new clients and documenting the onboarding process as it relates to updating our internal systems. After meticulously laying out each step, I think we have a solid process outlined.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their career at Mercury?

Be curious and take on different things. There is a ton to learn in the world of shipping & logistics and you can learn something new every day.

What keeps you motivated and inspired in your work at Mercury?

Often our clients are shipping lifesaving and groundbreaking life science research, and having the opportunity to help ship these is an incredible honor.

What's the most unexpected skill or knowledge you've brought to your role at Mercury?

There are a few systems that we use here that I had no prior experience with, including our customer portal that our clients use to book and manage their shipments. Our product team did a great job making it as simple as possible for our clients to ship, which makes my job easy.

What's your go-to productivity hack for staying organized and meeting deadlines?

I like to use OneNote to log all my meeting notes. I love to categorize things, so having a tool that allows me to do this in great detail is very helpful.

What's your favorite way to unwind and de-stress after a busy workday?

Hands down it would be playing guitar.
